Yoshi's Woolly World

Yoshi's Woolly World

Yoshi’s Woolly World is suitable for children 3 and over, but it can be enjoyed by adults who like to play video games with their kids, younger ages will need parent/sibling help at points even with mellow mode. It includes your typical platformer game ingredients such as moving platforms; boss battles every 3 or so stages, hub worlds, lava stages, ice stages etc. But, for those with the ability to just let loose and enjoy, they will find a game that is filled with pleasantries.

The graphics are simply astounding showing the power the Wii U has to be able to play this game at this level and of course you have the addictive happy tempo music. Everything is made out of yarn, felt, and cotton balls. Backdrops are obviously hanging fabric, buttons are everywhere, and balls of yarn littler the landscapes. They did a great job of making everything look and animate wonderfully.

There are five 'yarn' bundles in each level. Yoshi tosses yarn balls to clear the way and tangle his enemies and sometimes knot them together. Yoshi can also tug at stray yarn and unravel walls to reveal hidden gems. If you collect them all in the game, after the game you'll be able to stitch them together to form a new Yoshi that you can use. Hidden areas make very good use of the crochet theme. Often there is a string tied in a bow. If you grab that string with your tongue, it will unravel a whole crochet item and reveal a hidden area.

There are two difficulty levels. You can switch difficulty at any time (even in the middle of the level). The levels are the same either way. It's just if you change to mellow mode your Yoshi’s can float fly forever which gives you a way to avoid falling to death and sometimes to skip whole parts of a level. My five year old who is not very good with games can slowly go through the level with mellow mode on.

Super Mario 3D World

Super Mario 3D World

Mario 3D is a fun family game Mario style with the 3D twist, you get to choose to play you favorite character like Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach or Toad and work together with your friends or compete for the crown in the first multiplayer 3D Mario game with outstanding graphics and the music is amazing and varies between big band music and orchestral remixes of older Mario music.

You can play as a single player and also multi players, the more players the more hectic and fun it is to play, there are so many options of controllers you can use, ranging from the game pad, to the pro controller, the wiimote to the nunchuck and the classic controller and they are all awesome.

The different modes in this game are amazing, whether its speed running with the clock starting at 100 seconds, or the bonus levels, there is so much variety offered (including a hidden bonus game) and the game never stays constant and is always changing things up. There is no way to get bored and so much to unlock, there are boatloads of old and new power ups in this game.

There is so much variety in this game it is actually hard to believe. Interesting game play scenarios are thrown at you and you say wow, that’s really neat, then the next level is completely different and you must shift gears, then it’s on to something new.

In the Mario 3DWorld's story is noteworthy simply because Peach's kidnapping is not the plot device used to introduce the exquisite gameplay (it also shows Mario and Luigi actually fixing something as plumbers do). While going for an evening stroll, Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Blue Toad stumble across a clear pipe, out of which pops a unique pixie-like princess from the Sprixie kingdom. She then informs them that Bowser has attacked and taken over her kingdom and requests help when, all of a sudden, Bowser pops out of the pipe, kidnaps this new princess, and absconds back into the recently conquered Sprixie Kingdom. Our four heroes give chase into the pipe to help their new friend, like any good Samaritans would do, thus beginning 3D World's plat forming euphoria. Interspersed throughout the adventure are very simple cut scenes that are enjoyable and appealing.

This is truly a wonderful fun game for the whole family to enjoy either solo or with others and experience another magical masterpiece with Nintendo's famous plumber hero.
